This Blue Jackets forward is being viewed as one of the most underrated forward's in the NHL.

Mathieu Olivier has been an outstanding fit on the Columbus Blue Jackets' roster since his arrival to the team during the 2022-23 season. It is exactly why he earned a six-year, $18 million contract extension with the Blue Jackets last March.

Now, Olivier's success in Columbus has earned him a nice shout-out.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Harman Dayal named Olivier among the NHL's most underrated forwards.

"Mathieu Olivier is a perfect example of a player whose value and importance far exceed his point totals. The burly, 232-pound third-line winger is a unicorn with his exceptionally rare blend of punishing, old-school toughness, shutdown defensive play and genuine secondary scoring touch," Dayal wrote.

When looking at all Olivier provides for the Blue Jackets, it is entirely understandable that he has been named an underrated forward by Dayal. The 29-year-old forward has not slowed down since his breakout year last season with Columbus, as he has made an impact both offensively and with his toughness yet again this season.

In 61 regular-season games this campaign with the Blue Jackets, Olivier had 15 goals, 11 assists, 26 points, 101 penalty minutes, and 209 hits. This is after he set career highs with 18 goals, 14 assists, 32 points, and 306 hits in 82 games during this past season with Columbus.

While Olivier is not considered a star in the NHL, he certainly makes a real impact, and the Blue Jackets are incredibly lucky to have him on their roster. All 31 other NHL clubs would love to have a player like Olivier in their lineup.
