The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that goalie Elvis Merzlikins has undergone shoulder surgery on Monday.

Per a club statement, “Elvis informed us a few weeks ago that he was experiencing some discomfort in his shoulder during his offseason workouts,” said Waddell. “Following an MRI, it was determined that surgery was the best course of action. He’ll be evaluated again in a few weeks, at which time we’ll have a clearer idea on when he will be back on the ice.”

This is bad timing for Merzlikins, who will be a UFA at the end of this season.

The team signed Pheonix Copley during the summer and may now get his shot to prove himself once again at the NHL level.
