Unfortunately, things didn’t get off to a great start. They dropped Game 1 back on April 30 by a score of 3-2 and fell behind 1-0 in the series. In Game 2, they were shut out 4-0 and suddenly found themselves down 2-0. It’s worth noting the second round is only a best-of-five, so three wins are needed to move on.
With their backs against the wall, the Monsters needed a win in Game 3 or their season would be over. They responded well, picking up a 3-1 win to keep their season alive and cut the series lead to 2-1.
Another win would have tied the series and forced a deciding Game 5. But they couldn’t get it done. The Monsters lost Game 4 by a score of 4-1, ending their playoff run.
It was still a strong season overall for Cleveland, and there’s a lot to build on moving forward. One of the biggest bright spots was goaltender Jet Greaves, who was excellent all year and could push for a full-time backup role with the Columbus Blue Jackets next season.
