The Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tragedy never fails to bring tears to people’s eyes. Yesterday on Twitter/X, there was another emotional moment—this time between Jane Gaudreau, the mother of Johnny and Matthew, and Calgary Flames goalie Dustin Wolf.
After Wolf was announced as a Calder Trophy finalist, Jane congratulated him on social media and shared a heartfelt message about how Johnny always spoke so highly of him. She finished by saying, “He would be so proud of you.”
Wolf later responded, thanking her and saying he felt both brothers were looking down on him from the start of the season.
It’s always moving to see just how many people were touched by Johnny and Matthew and how their memory continues to impact those around them.
In Wolf’s case, he honoured Johnny by including a tribute on the backplate of his mask. It features Johnny in a Flames jersey raising his stick, along with purple Gatorade and Skittles—his favourite snacks.
Just a really special moment between Wolf, who idolized Johnny, and Jane, who continues to carry on her sons’ legacy every day.
