The Columbus Blue Jackets organization has lost another coach to the Colorado organization.

The AHLs Colorado Eagles have announced that they have hired Cleveland Monsters assistant Mark Letestu as their next head coach. The team made the announcement today.

Per an Eagles press release “We’re excited to welcome Mark to the Avalanche and Eagles family,” said Avalanche Assistant General Manager Kevin McDonald. “Mark has quickly established himself as up-and-coming coach in the American Hockey League and we feel he’s the perfect fit to lead the Eagles moving forward.”

Letestu said in a statement: "I am very grateful to both the Avalanche and Eagles for this opportunity," said Letestu. "I am excited and ready for this challenge to lead their AHL franchise. Thank you to the Kroenke family, Joe Sakic, Chris MacFarland and Kevin McDonald for their trust in me, as well as a big thank you to Martin Lind, Ryan Bach and the entire Eagles organization. Most importantly thanks to my family for all of their support throughout my playing career and now my coaching career. I can’t wait to get the season going.”

Letestu spent the last four seasons with the Cleveland Monsters as an assistant coach. Before that he finished his career playing for the Winnipeg Jets.

In 2018-19, he played 64 games foe the Monsters and had 50 points.

This isn't the first time Colorado has plucked an up and coming coach from Columbus. On August 25, 2016, the Avs hired Jared Bednar to replace Patrick Roy. Bednar had just won the Calder Cup for Cleveland earlier that Spring. Bednar has since went on to win a Stanley Cup, and is considered one of the best coaches in the NHL.

    Good luck to Mark Letestu.
