The NHL has officially announced the 32 nominees for the 2025 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, and representing the Columbus Blue Jackets is defenseman Zach Werenski.
The award is presented “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
Werenski, 27, has made a lasting impact in Columbus through his "Z-Suite" program. Since its inception, the initiative has welcomed over 2,000 children and families to Blue Jackets games — including those battling life-threatening illnesses, military members, first responders, and underserved youth.
Each team nominates one player, but the final winner will be selected by a committee led by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
The recipient of the award will receive a $25,000 donation to the charity or charities of their choice.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy was established in 1988 in honor of Frank “King” Clancy — a beloved figure in the hockey world who left a mark as a player, referee, coach, manager, and goodwill ambassador.
