Columbus Keeps It Close for Two Periods, Then Implodes In 55 Seconds To Hand The Oilers Their 14th Straight Win
The Blue Jackets and Oilers traded goals in the first as Warren Foegele and Dmitri Voronkov scored. It would be Voronkov's 10th goal of the season. Kent Johnson would tally his 9th assist on the goal.
Connor McDavid would seemingly score on Elvis in the second period, but luckily for the CBJ it was deemed to be offsides, so the score would stay at 1-1.
But in the third, the Jackets would again have a meltdown and allow two goals in 55 seconds, which would spoil an otherwise great game by the Jackets. Evander Kane and Connor McDavid scored to make it 3-1 five minutes into the third to do the Jackets in. Dylan Holloway scored with just over 4 minutes left to make it 4-1. The Jackets played 2 1/4 periods of good hockey and then let it slip away in the third, giving the Oilers their 14th straight win. The CBJ played well enough to win and spoil the Oilers win streak.
The Jackets have given up 73 goals in third periods this season, and are a -36.
