The New York Islanders announced today the hiring of Patrick Roy to be their new Head Coach, relieving Lane Lambert in the process.
Roy was once considered to be a candidate by the CBJ this past summer after firing Brad Larsen. In the end, it doesn't seem like Roy was a candidate for the Columbus job at all.
Roy had coached the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL since 2005, with a 5-year gap from 2013 to 2018, while he coached in the NHL. Last spring, his Remparts won the 2023 Memorial Cup, a team that featured current Cleveland Monster and CBJ prospect James Malatesta.
This hire for the Islanders should make the Metro even tougher than it already is. In three years coaching for the Colorado Avalanche, his win-loss record was 130-92-24.
The "Metro Meat Grinder" continues.
