Columbus Quotables: CBJ vs. Tampa Post-Game

Boone Jenner was the only player that could muster a goal for Columbus last night. Zach Werenski continued his hot streak since coming back from Injury, and Johnny Gaudreau continued his streak as well with two assists.

Last night, Captain Boone Jenner, Zach Werenski, and Johnny Gaudreau spoke to the media post-game. Head Coach Pascal Vincent also gave his post-game presser and gave an update on Yegor Chinakhov.

Boone Jenner - Scored his 14th and 15th goals, including one on the power play.

  • We had good energy, we had our legs going and was creating chances from that.
  • It's on us to have our push. I like the way we stayed in it and battled.

Zach Werenski - Tallied one assist and now has 4 assists in 5 games since coming back from injury.

  • Their goalie played really good tonight. He made some big saves and it could've been tied earlier.
  • 5-on-5 we played really good tonight. I think our power play did some good things. Sharpen up the penalty kill a little bit, they scored two on us, and that's kind of the difference.
  • I thought we played a pretty good game tonight.
  • Coming out of the break I think we worked hard.
  • As a group we're playing a lot better defensively.
  • I thought we battled hard, it just wasn't our night.

Johnny Gaudreau - Assisted on both goals and now has 5 points in the last 4 games. He also has 9 points in his last 9 games.

  • I thought we played well, thought we had a lot of chances.
  • He's a great goaltender (Vasilevskiy), he played well throughout the night, made some big saves at some key moments. Take your hats off to him.
  • We kept fighting. Kept grinding away there in the third and made it a one-goal game, but couldn't capitalize on the 6-5.
  • It was a good effort for us, but we have to keep doing it game after game.
  • I thought we played well, obviously the result wasn't there, but just keep building and get better every day.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent

  • I liked the game, basically from start to finish.
  • They work for each other right now, they play for each other.
  • Their goalie was outstanding, we need to acknowledge that. But if I just focus on us, we started strong, we finished strong, we had a chance to come back in this game.
  • If you were at the game tonight, that's the style of hockey we're going to play. Thats what we wanted to create, and that's we're creating.
  • On Officiating: I know they're trying their best and trying to make it right. Do we agree with them all the time? No we don't. Do we agree on this one? No we don't. I also think that they have to make calls right away.
  • We needed more traffic in front of him (Vasilevskiy).
  • We changed our forecheck in the third, and the guys just did it right away and it was sharp, and we created some chances.
  • Not happy with the result, nobody is.
  • We're disappointed but the process was right.
  • On Losing Chinakhov: We know most likely he's not going to play the next game and we'll go from there.
  • On Gaudreau: His game tonight, he was dynamite. When he plays like tonight, our team looks different.
  • On Werenski: He was really good.

Up Next: Columbus travels to Ottawa to play the Senators on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
