According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs could have a deal that would help both teams.
Friedman released a "The Mid Summer Check-In" episode, where he and his co-host Kyle Bukauskas went over some of the latest news and rumors around the NHL. When Friedman got to talking about the Blue Jackets, he mentioned that a fan reached out to him with a trade proposal.
"I had one Columbus fan ask me if Chinakhov for Robertson made sense. I think Toronto would have to do more to get that done."- Friedman on The Mid Summer Check-In" ~ 32 Thoughts the Podcast
Without going into any further details about what the Maple Leafs would need to offer, he did acknowledge the question. If you’re a fan of 32 Thoughts the Podcast, you know that when Friedman thinks a fan or outsider brings up a good idea, he usually makes a point to mention it.
So this question regarding a potential Robertson for Chinakhov trade, at the very least, seems to make sense to him. Obviously, as he mentioned, there would need to be more from Toronto to make the deal work. It's hard to say what exactly would get the deal over the finish line. It could be a prospect or even a draft pick.
Nevertheless, this time of year always brings a lot of trade rumors that never come to fruition. But this trade could be one that addresses needs for both clubs, if they can find a way to get it done.
