NHL insider Darren Dreger revealed an update on Mathieu Olivier's contract situation with the Columbus Blue Jackets yesterday on X.

Dreger shared that contract extension talks are "ongoing" and that there is next to no chance he will be traded at the March 7 trade deadline.

He also mentioned that progress has been made toward an extension, which seems like it could be announced any day. However, if the Blue Jackets plan to keep him on their roster, they have until June 30 at 11:59 p.m. to get a deal done.

Lastly, Dreger noted that the Blue Jackets consider Olivier a "big part of the Jackets team."

Olivier has been outstanding this season. While he is still dropping the gloves, he has shown he is much more than just a fighter.

In 59 games this season, the Mississippi native has 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points, setting a new career high. He has also recorded a career-high 99 penalty minutes so far.

Right now, Olivier is focused on the outdoor game against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, as well as helping push his club into the playoffs.
