Pascal Vincent Addresses Improving Penalty Kill, Trade Deadline

Vincent was asked about his penalty kill and what he's seen recently in terms of improvement, Vincent said, "Our details were really good early in the season so when you're doing a good thing you just want to add a little component here and there, and just making sure you keep progressing, keep growing. We did well once we started doing that. All of the sudden it felt like the details weren't there anymore. So we went back to not step number 1, but more basic, and the guys are reacting really well. There were some hard conversations with our players and accountability and all of that, but the last three or four games, they've been really good." The Jackets have killed 10 straight penalties.

He was also asked what he'd like to accomplish over the last few weeks of the season. Vincent says, "After the end of the trading period, we might want to see a few guys from the American league. I don't want to see anything different on what we've built so far, so we've been growing and progressing and learning the systems. We talked about it all year, it's going to take some time, new coach, bunch of new players. Recently, the pieces of the puzzle seem like they're connecting, the guys are understanding, were playing a little bit more fast. I want to see a consistent team because that's the one thing that maybe we haven't had enough, consistency in our execution, and the way we play both offensively and defensively."

Vincent was also asked about how the room is right now leading up to the trade deadline. "A few guys are probably nervous right now, or not sure what's going to happen. But for the most part, they don't really talk about it. Their agents will if they need to, but the players, they just don't. That's not a subject that hockey players talk about, and they know it's part of the business, you might get traded anytime. For most of them, it's just business as usual and if it happens it happens," Vincent says.
