The Columbus Blue Jackets dropped their 4th straight game as they were defeated by the LA Kings. Untimely turnovers did the CBJ in on multiple occasions in this game.
Let's take a look at the goals scored for each team.
Goal #1 - 1-0 CBJ - Dmitri Voronkov's First Goal Of The Season
Voronkov's goal came 13:26 into the first period. As the Kings' Kevin Fiala had the puck and was coming up through his defensive zone, Voronkov stepped up and put some pressure on Fiala. Fiala slung the puck into the neutral zone to a waiting Justin Danforth. Danforth immediately drove into the offensive zone. But instead of forcing a pass through the circle to a driving Voronkov, he took the puck wide to try to get some separation from the Kings' Joel Edmundson who would've picked off any pass from Danforth at that point. By getting that separation and delaying a pass, it created a little more time for Voronkov to drive the net and score on an excellent pass from Danforth.
Goal #2 - 1-1 - Vladislav Gavrikov Scores His 2nd Goal Of The Season For The Kings
The play started with Jake Christiansen failing to get the puck into the offensive zone. Adrian Kempe ended up with the puck after it slid into the Kings' offensive zone where he drove it deep and then circled back. After circling back he would pass it to Gavrikov where he ripped it into the net from distance. Elvis Merzļikins didn't see much of it as it went by him to tie it at 1.
Goal #3 - 2-1 Kings - Warren Foegele Nets His 6th Goal Of The Season
Sean Kuraly crossed the center red line and lost the puck. Brandt Clark quickly passed it to Samuel Helenius who then popped it to Akil Thomas and drove into the Jackets D-Zone. Thomas then made an elite pass over to Warren Foegele who was coming in on Elvis' ride side. Foegele blistered a shot past Merzļikins who couldn't get over in time.
Goal #4 - 3-1 Kings - Trevor Moore Scores His Second Goal Of The Season
Phillip Danault forced a turnover on Cole Sillinger causing the puck to leave the Jackets' zone where Trevor Moore gathered the puck up. As he got the puck, Zach Werenski closed in on him. Moore wasted no time zipping a shot high glove side on Elvis Merzļikins.
Goal #5 - 3-2 Kings - Ivan Provorov Scores His 1st Goal Of The Season
While the CBJ were on the power play and probing the Kings' defense, Ivan Provorov took a rebound from Rittich and buried it. The play started with Justin Danforth and Adam Fantilli going back and forth with the puck. Danforth would take a shot that he didn't get much mustard on, which may have caused Rittich to save it the way he did. The puck bounced off of Rittich's pad where Provorov was waiting for it.
Goal #6 - 4-2 Kings - Alex Laferriere Scores His 9th Goal Of The Season
Alex Laferriere tipped in a shot from a Joel Edmundson shot to beat Elvis Merzļikins. It started from a Kings rush and a big pad rebound gathered by the Kings and kept in the zone. Joel Edmundson let his shot go from way out that was tipped in front by Leferriere for his 9th goal.
The Kings also added an empty net goal to end the game with a 5-2 victory for LA.
What's Next - The Blue Jackets travel 30 miles southeast to Anaheim to play the Ducks tonight.
