Mathieu Olivier speaks about Laine, Kent Johnson, Adam Fantilli, and more on the Cam & Strick Podcast
Mathieu Olivier is not just a good hockey player – he's also a great interviewee.
Olivier was recently on The Cam & Strick Podcast with Andy Strickland and Cam Janssen. He, as always was a great interview and talked about a variety of things, including Kent Johnson, Adam Fantilli, and a lot more. You can listen to the full interview below.
But there's one subject that was brought up that a lot of CBJ fans want answers to, and that's the comments former Jacket Patrik Laine made about the team being too comfortable with losing. We haven't really heard from any of the players about this topic.
Olivier was asked about the Laine comments.
"Yeah, so that was a delicate one," Olivier said. "The thing is that we went through some tough times with Patty, we knew him close, we went through the grind with him, and then I think what happened was, you know obviously he kind of said some things that didn't sit well with us. But when he was asked to clarify who he was talking about, he was like, 'I'll just leave it for your imagination.'
"We just kind of felt like, man we been through this grind with you, and now people are going to think that's us, and that's not OK. Right? So, I haven't talked to Patty much since then, probably will someday down the road. But that's pretty much all I got to say on it. It's a delicate thing to talk publicly."
Olivier was asked if Laine apologized for his comments.
"Yeah, he did to a couple of us, yeah he did," Olivier said. "It's kind of just about sticking together, right? We're all in it together, so, that was just our mindset for the game."
He then moved on to another subject.
If you watch Olivier, you can tell he wanted to say more but seemed like he wanted to keep it private. Good for him for keeping some things in the dressing room.
Unless more active players come out and talk about this subject, this might be all we hear about it unless a player is probed about it.
Happy 28th birthday to Mathieu Olivier.
