The Dallas Stars are set to hit the ice once again for the first time in two days to potentially take a series lead once again. The Stars are coming off a deflating loss in Game Four, where they were shutout for the first time this series. Dallas will aim to reverse their fortune with a little bit of home cooking in Game Five.
Whatever momentum was built during the previous overtime wins for the Stars was quickly deflated as the Avalanche quickly took control of Game Four. Colorado would dominate the second period of the game, outshooting Dallas 22-5. The Stars' defense was less than ideal, as Colorado easily enforced their will in the low slot. Despite letting up four goals, Jake Oettinger put forth his best effort, stopping 31 of 34 shots in just two periods in net. While the Dallas goaltenders were peppered on one end, on the other, Mackenzie Blackwood saw limited pushback en route to his first career playoff shutout.
Tonight will hope to be a different story, with the Stars back home, and the series tied. Dallas will look to get their offense started early with a high barrage of shots to not allow Mackenzie Blackwood to settle in. Stars forward Mikko Rantanen has yet to score a goal in the series against his former team. Rantanen is playing in his first playoff series in a Stars' sweater after singing a $96 million contract upon being traded to Dallas in March. Through the first four games, Rantanen has tallied one point and put up a plus-minus of -4. While Rantanen searches for his scoring touch, Dallas will look to Tyler Seguin who leads the team in goals scored thus far with two. Thomas Harley will aim to set up more scoring chances, while currently leading the team in points(3).
Tonight's matchup will kick off tonight at 8:30pm CDT and can be viewed on Victory+.
