Craig Smith and Jani Hakanpaa scored two goals in the final 15 seconds of regulation time as the Dallas Stars beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in a Christmas miracle win.
The Stars were down 2-1 late in the third when Predators forward Filip Forsberg hit the post on a breakaway. What happened next was a miracle.
Craig Smith scores the game-tying goal with 15 seconds left in regulation. Smith played nine seasons with the Preds, tallying 162 goals and 168 assists.
The Stars weren't done there. Hakanpaa scored his first goal of the season with just two seconds left on the clock.
Dallas now has 12 comeback wins this season and 12 wins by one goal, both tops in the NHL.
The Stars were down 2-0 entering the third period, but Evgenii Dadonov scored his eighth goal of the season.
Not to get lost in the shuffle, but Matt Duchene returned to Nashville for the first time since he was bought out last offseason. The Predators gave him a video tribute and a standing ovation during the first period.
Duchene played four seasons with the Predators and scored 197 points (84 goals, 113 assists).
Scott Wedgewood made 19 saves, winning his third straight start. The Stars were peppering Juuse Saros all night as he finished with 31 saves.
Saros got some help from Roman Josi, too.
Dallas reaches the 20-win mark and heads into the Christmas break on a terrific high note.
