Stars could have their top defenseman back earlier than expected after surgery
The Dallas Stars have been hit hard in recent months with the injury bug, and many feared the worst when defenseman Miro Heiskanen needed assistance down the tunnel on Jan. 28th. The Finnish blueliner was forced from the late January affair after Vegas forward Mark Stone lost his edge and fell awkwardly into Heiskanen's knee. The Stars organization and fan base can breathe a collective sigh of relief after good news broke earlier today following successful surgery.
Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen's season was thought done and over by many following the nasty fall taken during the Jan. 28th content against the Vegas Golden Knights. Following a successful surgery yesterday in New York, Stars head coach Pete DeBoer gave encouraging feedback, stating that the Dallas defenseman was "month-to-month". This would suggest that the Stars are not ruling out Heiskanen for the playoffs, and even the regular season.
While this statement on the injury is beyond vague to a nonmedical expert, one could draw the conclusion that Heiskanen will be available once the Stars hit the ice in late April for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Since Dallas is currently the third-best ranked team in the NHL in points, Pete DeBoer and co. would be wise to allow the 25-year-old defensemen the remainder of the season to rest up for the games that will truly count the most.
