Roope Hintz scores a hat-trick and Jason Robertson's point streak hits five as the Dallas Stars beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4.

Roope Hintz scores a hat-trick and Jason Robertson's point streak hits five as the Dallas Stars beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4.

A wild game saw the Blackhawks score the opening two goals, the Stars respond with four straight and the Blackhawks score two unanswered to tie the game late in the third before Hintz scoring his hat-trick goal in overtime.

The Stars once again found themselves trailing giving up the first two goals of the game. This is the fourth straight game where they have given up the first goal. The Stars are now 12-7-1 when the opponents score first. They are also 7-6-1 when trailing after the first period.

Tyler Johnson was able to get just enough of a bad rebound let out by Scott Wedgewood to open the scoring.

The Blackhawks weren't done there. The Blackhawks had the Stars running around in their own zone for an extended period of time before Lukas Reichel found Cole Guttman wide-open in front of the Stars net.

The Stars wasted no time getting themselves back into the game. A pretty passing play between Jamie Benn and Joe Pavelski was finished off by Hintz. This goal ended the Stars five-game streak without a power play goal.

The first period came to a close once again with the Stars trailing despite outshooting their opponents.

The second period was dominated by the Stars and was highlighted by two goals in 20 seconds. Thomas Harley circled behind the Blackhawks net before sending a pass to Nils Lundkvist whose shot was deflected in front by Pavelski. Lundkvist was inserted into the lineup after being healthy scratched for the last four games.

The second goal in this 20-second span was scored by Hintz. Back-and-forth passing between him and Jason Robertson led to another wide-open cage for Hintz to score into.

Just over two minutes into the third period Wyatt Johnston walked around Jarred Tinordi but had his shot stopped by Petr Mrazek. Jamie Benn was crashing the net and was able to tap the rebound into the empty goal for his sixth of the season.

The Blackhawks weren't ready to quit yet. After Pavelski took a high sticking penalty, former Stars forward Jason Dickinson came off the bench undetected and one-timed a Guttman pass. Dickinson continues to add to his career-high total and is now up to 12 goals.

A delay of game penalty by Evgenii Dadonov with less than five minutes left in the third period led to a game-tying goal by Johnson. Johnson's second goal of the game was his ninth goal of the season and sent this game into overtime. The Blackhawks outshot the Stars 14-4 in the third.

After nothing happened in the first 4:50 in the overtime, Heiskanen and Robertson were able to set up Hintz for his third of the game. Hintz is up to 14 goals on the season and now is tied with Pavelski for the team lead.

The Stars refused to take the easy route for the two points tonight but in the end, they were able to find a way to win the game.

Joe Pavelski continues to move up the ranks in the all-time U.S born skaters point toal. Pavelski will have the opportunity to pass Doug Weight on New Year's Eve when the Stars take on the Blackhawks again at home.
