Matt Duchene and Thomas Harley each register a goal and an assist to help the Stars beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in overtime.

Thatcher Demko made 32 saves, and Brock Boeser scored his 24th goal of the season, but thanks to a late goal by Harley and then a goal in the dying seconds by Duchene in overtime, the Stars could pick up the extra point.

Scott Wedgewood only faced 20 shots, but many of those could be considered high-danger, including a 2-on-0 between Elias Pettersson and Dakota Joshua in overtime. The Stars' powerplay is also now scoreless in their opportunities.

The first period was played mostly in the Canucks zone. The shots were 16-6 for the Stars in the opening frame, but the period ended tied 1-1 thanks to goals from Dakota Joshua and Tyler Seguin.

Connor Garland and Dakota Joshua were sprung on a 2-on-1 by Teddy Blueger and opened the scoring for the Canucks. Garland slid the puck across to Joshua, who made no mistake with Wedgewood desperately trying to slide across the goal.

After Jamie Benn drew a penalty and then took a penalty during the ensuing 4-on-4, Matt Duchene and Tyler Seguin combined to tie the game. Duchene sent a saucer pass to Seguin, who was skating to the net, and he could tip past Demko with just one hand on his stick.

In the second period, the top line for the Stars combined to give them the lead. Jason Robertson, from behind the Canucks net, laid a pass on the tape of Roope Hintz, who made a quick move around the stick of Nikita Zadarov before sliding it five-hole on Demko.

Brock Boeser responded with his 24th goal of the season. He beat Wedgewood over the blocker with a rocket of a shot.

With the score equal at 2, Garland, Joshua, and Blueger connected on a pretty passing play to give the Canucks the lead with 4:56 left in the third period.

But just 1:26 later, Thomas Harley ripped his 9th goal of the season past Demko to tie the game at three. Robertson and Heiskanen each picked up their second assist of the game.

The shots were 34-19 in favour of the Stars going into overtime. After four minutes of each team regrouping in the neutral zone, Joshua made a great defensive play that sprung him and Pettersson on a 2-on-0, but Wedgewood made a huge pad save.

With ten seconds left, Harley found Duchene in behind the Canucks defense, and Duchene once again beat Demko five-hole, making that three of the four goals going through the legs of Canucks goaltender.

The Stars picked up the crucial extra point in a tight Central Division race.
