The Dallas Stars were only shut out twice in the regular season, but now with the 3-0 shutout at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2, the Stars have been blanked four times already in the postseason.

Stuart Skinner made 25 saves for his third shutout in his last four starts, which is more impressive considering every other start he has made he has posted under a .800 save percentage. It has truly been a tale of two performances for the beleaguered goaltender who lost his starting crease in the first round to Calvin Pickard. Pickard was injured in the second round against Vegas and has not resumed skating yet.
Aside from Skinner's performance, Edmonton got another power play goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the first period. A shot from the point was slowed down by a deflection and landed perfectly on Nugent-Hopkins stick by the net front for an easy tap-in past Jake Oettinger.
The second goal came after a period of pressure from Dallas when defenseman Brett Kulak got his initial shot blocked by Mikko Rantanen but the puck came right back to him. That put Oettinger off enough for Kulak to beat him glove side to extend the Oilers lead to 2-0 and extinguish more hope from the rowdy fans.
Then shortly after, a wicked deflection off a Nugent-Hopkins shot got past Oettinger. Connor Brown got credit for the goal, which one-hopped off the ice and into the net. That was all the cushion that Edmonton needed to cruise to a win.
The Oilers only had one shot on goal in the third period, but held Dallas to only seven in their push to come back (or even just break the seal on Skinner for the night). The most important save of the night came on a diving play across the net from Skinner, who stuck his stick out and deflected a shot off the goal line in what would have otherwise been a wide open net.
That play essentially summed up the Stars night - the puck luck was not on their side.
The injury luck was also not on the Stars side, as Roope Hintz went down in a heap after a needless slash from Darnell Nurse straight to the ankle area. Hintz was helped off the ice, unable to put any weight on the leg in question.
The play was reviewed briefly, but only called a minor penalty for slashing.
Losing Game 2 was painful enough, but any loss of Hintz for a period of time would be crushing for a team who is already struggling to find the back of the net consistently game-by-game. The last three losses for Dallas have come via shutout.
The Hintz injury comes on a historic day for Finnish players, as all five Finns were in the starting lineup tonight, marking the first time in NHL history that happened.
Both teams will be short on rest, as they will make the trek up to northern Alberta and regroup for an afternoon game Sunday. Puck drop is at 2 p.m. CDT.
