The Stars made headlines during yesterday's trade deadline day as they struck a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Mikko Rantanen. In return, the Stars sent Logan Stankoven along with a slew of draft picks. Another move that made have fallen under the radar for some was the extension of Wyatt Johnston.

Wyatt Johnston is having another phenomenal year in which he could very reach 30-goal mark for the second straight year. Johnston currently has 23 goals and 59 points on the season, and has already proven to be a reliable spark plug for the Stars in his young career. On top of being a constant source of scoring, the 21-yr old center has also shown that he can handle the task of winning face offs, boasting a 49% face off success rate. The Stars promptly rewarded the young forward by giving him a five-year, $8.4 million extension.  At the rate of development, the extension for Johnston will most likely be a cost saver for the Stars as they look to continue to spend to improve other parts of their roster.

After edging the Flames in a 3-2 victory, the Stars will be back in action tonight as they take on the Edmonton Oilers. Puck drop is scheduled for 9pm CST and can be viewed on Victory+.
