The Dallas Stars have made it past the formidable Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. While some might say they squeaked by the Avalanche after the series went the full seven games, the road to the Stanley Cup Final will not get easier with Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets who are the next obstacle. The Stars will now have the difficult task of solving goaltender Connor Hellebuyck who practically owned the Stars during the regular season.
There is no easy road to winning the Stanley Cup. Often times, the team that hoist the greatest trophy in hockey faces the toughest road to win 16 wins. After getting past the Avalanche for the second straight season, the Stars will now face off against the Winnipeg Jets. The Stars did not fair that well during the regular against the Jets as they took home just one victory in the four matchups. The Stars did not fair that better against reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck. Through their four matchups, the Winnipeg goaltender notched a save percentage of .956, and goals against average of 1.01.
Rantanen, Stars Send Avalanche Packing In Game Seven Thriller
The Dallas Stars were tasked with one mission heading into their series finale on Saturday night: win. The Stars and Avalanche have battled back and forth for the last week and a half, ultimately coming to a close in a winner-take-all Game Seven. What started as a night that looked to trend in the Avalanche's favor, eventually ended in possibly one of the most memorable games in Stars history.
Just like they did in their previous playoff round with Colorado, the Stars will hope to flip the scrip against the Jets. The Stars will have some reinforcement as Jason Robertson is set to make his return after being out of action since the last game of the regular season. Dallas will also hope forward Mikko Rantanen will continue his playoff heroics after notching a hat-trick in Game Seven, bringing his playoff point total to 12.
The Stars and Jets will clash in Game One of their playoff series on Wednesday at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg. Puck drop is set for 8:30pm CDT, and can be viewed on ESPN.
