The Stars are looking for their third straight win against Pittsburgh, a team fighting for their playoff lives.

The Dallas Stars are looking for their third straight win as they end a five-game homestand Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins at American Airlines Center.

This will be the second and final meeting between the Stars and Penguins this season. The last time they played each other was back on October 24, 2023 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, when Dallas won in convincing fashion, 4-1. Jason Robertson and Thomas Harley each registered a goal and an assist, while Wyatt Johnston and Evgenii Dadonov each tallied a goal. Jake Oettinger stopped 38 of 39 shots.

The Stars have taken four of the last five meetings against the Penguins, including the last two home games. Dallas has recorded points in 11 of their last 19 matchups against the Penguins, compiling a 10-8-1 record (21 points) against them during that period.

Each team is headed in opposite directions as the regular season winds down. The Stars (42-19-9, 93 points) are in third place in the Central Division, although they have the same number of points as the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche. Winnipeg still has two games in hand while Colorado has one.

The Penguins, on the other hand, are fighting to keep from spending their second straight season watching the playoffs from home. They currently sit in seventh in the Metropolitan Division with a 30-29-9 record and 69 points. Dallas is virtually guaranteed a spot in the postseason, while Pittsburgh is teetering on the brink of elimination.

In their last game, the Stars dispatched the Arizona Coyotes 5-2 on Wednesday. Logan Stankoven, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Robertson and Craig Smith each tallied goals for the Stars, who scored five goals in a game for the 20th time this season.

The Penguins last played on Tuesday, a 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Sidney Crosby extended his point streak to four games, recording a goal and four assists during that span.
