The latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast, The Silky Mitten State
Episode 15 of THN Detroit's The Silky Mitten State is live!
On this week's show, my co-host Connor Earegood and I talk about a successful week of Red Wings hockey.
The show opens with a conversation about the team's present three-game winning streak and the sense that Detroit's playoff aspirations have grown a lot more realistic in recent days. You can see a sample of that portion of the discussion in the video below:
We move into a conversation about Ben Chiarot's strong form, as well as his value to the Red Wing blue line. We touch on some of the skepticism that Chiarot's game has drawn from the analytically inclined and how that does or does not accurately reflect his game. We also hit on his chemistry with Jeff Petry.
From there, we move into a discussion of Michael Rasmussen's extension, touching on the way he's proved himself indispensable for the team's long term future. We talk about Rasmussen's versatility as well as his journey from perceived draft bust to long-term contract.
In the second half of the show, we look to the future, specifically the trade deadline and the offseason behind it. We discuss the long-term futures of Joe Veleno, Daniel Sprong, Patrick Kane, and Shayne Gostisbehere (all currently on one-year deals), then move into a conversation about potential moves at the deadline. We hit on whether it makes sense to upgrade at each position group and if so, what that upgrade might look like.
