The latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast, The Silky Mitten State

The latest episode of The Silky Mitten State is live!
On this week's show, my co-host Connor Earegood and I open the conversation by debriefing a massive week for hockey at the University of Michigan. We begin with a conversation of last week's Board of Regents meeting, at which Denise Ilitch offered formal, on-the-record support for a varsity women's hockey program at U-M, citing the importance of the work coach Jenna Trubiano has done to build the club program as well as the need to give in-state hockey talent a place to pursue their collegiate careers.
Then, we jump into a discussion of the Maryland Heights Regional Final at the NCAA Tournament, at which Michigan beat Michigan State 5-2 to secure its third straight trip to the Frozen Four. We touch on Frank Nazar III's dazzling between-the-legs pass for Dylan Duke's goal (which made it 4-2 at the time) and the Wolverines' confidence and poise in knocking off MSU. We also discuss the Spartans' bright future despite last night's setback. Here's a video sample of that conversation:
From there, we pivot into a discussion of the Red Wings. We begin by talking about the ambivalence we felt watching Dylan Larkin play hurt and effectively on Saturday against Florida. Then we get into a discussion of the fragile state of Detroit's playoff aspirations. Finally, we close the show with our first ever mailbag, fielding questions on the Red Wings' long-term goaltending future and which vets will stay with the team past this season.
