The Detroit Red Wings are getting tremendous production out of Alex DeBrincat, and he's set a new Red Wings club record in the process.
Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat has cemented himself as a pure goal scorer, and he's going above and beyond in his quest to help bring Stanley Cup Playoff hockey to Detroit for the first time since 2016.
Not only is DeBrincat routinely lighting the lamp, but thanks to his most recent clutch performance, he's set some club history in the process.
DeBrincat scored his 38th and 39th goals of the season in Detroit's huge 4-2 road win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena, the second of which came mere seconds after the Flyers had cut Detroit's lead to a single goal.
Now sitting at 80 points scored so far this season with seven games remaining, DeBrincat became the first U.S.-born Red Wings player in club history, which is now officially 100 years, to record an 80-point campaign.
DeBrincat's second goal, which halted the momentum the Flyers were generating, was from a sharp angle along the goal line after doing a full 180-degree spin; the puck deflected off a Flyers' stick and past goaltender Samuel Ersson.
Afterward, DeBrincat explained that the message on the bench after Philadelphia's second goal was to push back immediately, and they did.
“A couple guys were like, ‘Let’s kill that momentum, you know, get in their zone quick,’” he said. “Kaner made a great play forechecking, getting it to Copper. The guy lifted his stick a little bit, so it (his shot) missed the net. I saw the goalie was pretty far out, so I tried to spin it around and get it to the net, and luckily it hit something and went upstairs.”
Sometimes you get bounces like that in a game, and it's a big one for us."

Since being snakebitten in his first eight games of the season, DeBrincat has not only matched his goal total of 39 from last season, but is also one tally away from becoming Detroit's first 40-goal scorer since Marian Hossa in 2008-09.
DeBrincat is doing his part to help carry Detroit across the finish line and has proven to be worth every penny of his contract.
