Former Red Wings forward Darren McCarty offers his reaction to the news of the major leadership transition for the club.
Major news broke earlier in the week that Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman was stepping down from the role that he'd held since April 2019.
The Red Wings are now conducting a search for Yzerman's successor, and will be considering a wide range of internal and external candidates for the valued position.
And as the reactions to the news poured in, a notable former teammate of Yzerman's is now offering his reaction.
Four-time Stanley Cup winner Darren McCarty, a regular contributor to Woodward Sports, said he believes the move is what's best for the organization.
"My first reaction to that is, what's best for the team," McCarty said. "I think that Steve is leading by example, and now all you guys who wanted it, let's see what's going on. My question is, who's in charge now? Does that change anything with Dylan Larkin?"
"This is best for the Red Wings organization, all in," he continued. "Hashtag Yzerplan just went next level."

After another disappointing finish, the organization determined it was time to move in a different direction. The club's playoff drought has now reached 10 consecutive seasons, the longest active stretch in the NHL now that the Sabres broke their drought of 14 years.
Despite seven years under Yzerman's leadership, Detroit never managed to secure a postseason berth.
The frustration was amplified over the past three seasons, as the Red Wings entered March in strong playoff position each year before late-season collapses erased their cushion in the standings and ultimately left them on the outside looking in.
