Detroit Drops a Must-Win in Washington & an NCAA Tournament Preview: The Silky Mitten State Episode 19

The latest episode of THN Detroit's "The Silky Mitten State" is live!

On this week's show, my co-host Connor Earegood and I debrief the Red Wings' 4-3 OT loss in Washington, specifically exploring the stakes of what it means to lose what felt unambiguously like a 'must win' with just 10 games remaining in the regular season.

We consider some of the positives from the night (Alex Lyon, Alex DeBrincat, a strong overall performance at five-on-five) and dive into where the result slipped away from Detroit (turnovers and outstanding goaltending from Charlie Lindgren for the Capitals).

From there, we touch on the route back into the lineup for Daniel Sprong (of late a healthy scratch) then what the future holds for Simon Edvinsson if and when Jake Walman returns to health.

To close the show, we dive into the bracket for the 2024 men's NCAA hockey tournament, which will begin tomorrow afternoon.  We roll through each regional, discussing the four teams competing for a spot in the Frozen Four with a special focus on the Maryland Heights Regional in suburban St. Louis, featuring North Dakota and three Michigan-based schools in Michigan State, Michigan, and Western Michigan.
