Derek Lalonde provided an update on the health of three injured Red Wings after today's practice
Today, the Detroit Red Wings practiced at the BELFOR Training Center in Little Caesars Arena as they look to shake off last night's humbling result in Buffalo ahead of tomorrow night's home game with the Coyotes.
There was good news from the jump for Detroit in that Joe Veleno—who'd taken a slap shot to the head against the Sabres, forcing him out of the game after playing just 5:18—was a full participant, taking line rushes with Michael Rasmussen and Patrick Kane.
After practice concluded, coach Derek Lalonde provided an update on the health of Dylan Larkin (out since March 2nd) and Ville Husso (out since February 13th).
"This weekend will be two weeks," said Lalonde of Larkin. "The original prognosis was approximately two weeks. I would not expect him this weekend. We'll see how he handles maybe getting on the ice this weekend, and hopefully we get back from Pittsburgh Monday, we're hoping he'll be maybe in the day-to-day range. That could change. We'll see how he feels tomorrow, but I wouldn't expect him on the weekend."
Of Husso, Lalonde said, "he's probably still in that week-to-week range...but he's been taking more reps, which is part of the process." When asked whether it might be a "photo finish" as to whether Husso would be able to return before the end of the (regular) season, Lalonde said "could be, [but] I would expect him the way he's progressed. You can even see more and more reps within practice. I would expect him before the end of the season, hopefully sooner than later and hopefully he can help us."
So, it's positive news on Veleno, Larkin's return sounds like it's well in the works if not exactly imminent, and Lalonde remains optimistic that Husso hasn't played his last game of the season.
