Two more Red Wings inked professional tryout deals Wednesday night. Both were defenseman, and both will try out with the Anaheim Ducks.

Defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and defenseman Mark Pysyk signed PTOs with Anaheim late Wednesday afternoon. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff first reported the signings.

Lindstrom was Detroit's second round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, and he showed a lot of promise as a two-way depth defender in his four seasons playing for the Red Wings organization. Last offseason, Detroit traded him to Montreal as part of the package that netted defenseman Jeff Petry.

Lindstrom's time with Montreal was short. When the Canadiens tried to send Lindstrom down in January, Anaheim claimed him on waivers. He played well in 32 games with the Ducks, logging six assists. He ranked third in relative expected goals percentage at an added 2% compared to his teammates. And however dubious a stat plus-minus might be, Lindstrom also ranked second on the Anaheim roster at plus-12.

There was a lot to like about Lindstrom's season, but that didn't earn him a new contract — either as a restricted free agent with the Ducks, who didn't extend a qualifying offer, or in unrestricted free agency as he remains unsigned. At just 25 and with a strong foundation to his game, Lindstrom could be a decent option for teams looking to add some depth.

Pysyk's history in Detroit was short-lived, but also career-altering. After signing with Detroit in the 2022 offseason, Pysyk tore his Achilles within mere weeks of becoming a Red Wing. He missed the entire season while recovering, then spent last year in the AHL for Pittsburgh's and Calgary's affiliates. His PTO with Anaheim is an opportunity to prove that he can still be of service to an NHL team, getting back on track from the injury that derailed what is already the back half of the 32-year-old defenseman's career.

Counting Pysyk and Lindstrom, nine former Red Wings are among the 27 players to sign PTO deals this offseason.
