2024 Red Wings first round pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has started his 2024-25 season in style, lighting it up for Skelleftea
Chances are, 2024 Red Wings first round pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard is at least a full season away from NHL minutes, and in all likelihood, it'll take more ripening than that. However, the 18-year-old Norwegian winger looks to be in a hurry to make an impact.
Today, in an exhibition game for Skelleftea AIK, his new club, Brandsegg-Nygard finished off a chance from the slot for a goal, his second in as many games in the SHL preseason.
Last week, Brandsegg-Nygard scored a beautiful one-timed goal that's made it hard not to get at least a little carried away about how much he might score one day in the Winged Wheel.
Regardless of Brandsegg-Nygard's timeline to the NHL, he's making clear that he's more than just a workmanlike, middle six winger. His shot represents a serious source of up side, and it will be exciting to see what that looks like this year with Skelleftea. The SHL is not an easy league to score in, even more so for an 18-year-old. Of course it's only preseason, but if the early returns are any indicator, Brandsegg-Nygard will turn the red light on more than a few times in his first full season at the senior level.
