The latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast The Silky Mitten State is live!
On this week's show, Connor Earegood and I get started by discussing Alex Lyon's injury for Team USA at IIHF Worlds and Trey Augustine's subsequent relief effort. We also consider the possibility of Augustine's call to action in Czechia altering the Red Wings' desired plans for his path to the pros. In other words, could a strong performance at Worlds propel Augustine out of returning to Michigan State for his sophomore season?
From there, we dive into three potential options for Detroit at pick number 15 in the upcoming draft: Cole Eiserman, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and Michael Hage. We discuss the pros and cons of each prospect, while also level-setting expectations for the 15th pick in general.
We then pivot into a more serious discussion of Val Nichushkin's suspension (which will be for a minimum of six months) and the doubts said suspension leaves us with concerning the NHLPA's "Player Assistance" program.
Finally, we whip around the four ongoing second round Stanley Cup Playoff series, making some predictions for how these games will wrap up as well as touching on headline stories from each.
