Red Wings Post-Mortem & Frozen Four Debrief: The Silky Mitten State Episode 22

The latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast The Silky Mitten State is live!

On this week's show, my co-host Connor Earegood and I wade into the difficult end to the year for both the Red Wings and the University of Michigan.

We start by discussing the resilience and the shortcomings on display in Detroit's two season-ending 5-4 OT wins over Montreal—praising the way the Red Wings consistently bounced back from increasingly adverse circumstances while attempting to maintain a degree of realism about the way Detroit allowed its margins to become so fine and dependent on the results of others.

From there, we begin to wade into next steps for the franchises. We discuss offseason priorities in free agency as well as the possibility of either or both of Derek Lalonde and Steve Yzerman entering the '24-25 season on the hot seat (spoiler: we aren't super persuaded by this idea, though it's not entirely unfounded). We also wade into the team's stylistic/tactical future, along with personnel priorities entering the summer.

To wrap the show, we quickly debrief Michigan's season-ending 4-0 loss to Boston College, its third successive national semifinal loss.  We discuss the Wolverines' disappointment but also the prospect of an extremely promising future with what projects to be a loaded roster in the coming season.
