An update on the Red Wings' health and availability heading into tomorrow's game against the Rangers

How Will Tarasenko Help Red Wings' Top Six?

At today's Detroit Red Wing practice, Jeff Petry (out since the season opener six days ago) and Christian Fischer (out since Saturday night's game against the Predators) were both full participants.  As was Justin Holl after he was re-called from Grand Rapids this morning.  Vladimir Tarasenko—who did play Monday night in New York—did not participate in practice.

After the skate concluded, coach Derek Lalonde provided a health update heading into tomorrow night's game.  Of Tarasenko, Lalonde said the winger is "a little under the weather, so we gave him a maintenance day [today], and we hope to have him for tomorrow."  Of Fischer, he said, "We'll see how Fisch responds.  This was his first full practice with the upper body, so we'll see how he responds.  We've got a couple moving parts going into tomorrow."  Of Petry, Lalonde said the D-man "is probably still in that day-to-day, so we'll have a feel tomorrow on where he's at."

Lalonde also mentioned that a call-up would be necessary should Fischer in particular prove unavailable, as Detroit intends to dress 12 forwards and six D (as opposed to 11 and seven) regardless of Fischer's availability.

Lalonde also noted that he expects Erik Gustafsson (a healthy scratch for the last two games after a poor defensive performance in the season opener) to play tomorrow, as well as Holl, which would likely close the door on the possibility of Petry being available by tomorrow night.
