The hit did not earn so much as a minor penalty in real time, though now the league has decided to give it a longer look.
The check in question looks to be both high (no small feat, considering Rasmussen stands at six-foot-six) and late. When you combine that with the fact that Rasmussen was then unable to finish the game, it seems like a safe assumption supplemental discipline is on the way for Zegras.

Per Detroit coach Todd McLellan, the officials explained after the hit that none of the four of them had seen the hit live and thus couldn't dole out a penalty for it. "They can't make stuff up. I get it. If they didn't see what happened, they just can't make it up, and that's what they told me," McLellan said after the game.
Of Rasmussen, McLellan said, "Obviously [he] didn't return and is still getting checked. And I think when a player gets a blow to a head and doesn't return, it's never a good sign, but we'll see how he is tomorrow. He seems to be in fairly good spirits, at least when I wandered by him. He's not happy about it, but he's in fairly good spirits."
Patrick Kane also weighed in on the hit after the game, saying "I didn't really see it too well to be honest with you. I saw a little bit of a replay. Off what I saw, it seemed pretty high, especially for a guy that's six-foot-six, right?"
As of this writing, there is no scheduled date and time for Zegras' meeting with NHL DPoS.
