Injury Update: Patrick Kane Will Be Unavailable Through Southern Road Swing

Per Derek Lalonde at today's practice, Patrick Kane will be unavailable for the Red Wings' games at Florida and Carolina

How hard will it be for Patrick Kane to come back from hip re-surfacing?

On Sunday evening in Toronto, on the way to a 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs that was every bit as rousing as it was improbable, the Detroit Red Wings lost forward Patrick Kane to injury on just his second shift of the game.

The good news for Red Wings fans is that after the game, coach Derek Lalonde indicated that the injury was not connected to his hip, an obvious concern after the hip re-surfacing surgery that served as the backdrop for his signing in Detroit.

After today's practice, Lalonde revealed that Kane would not be available for either leg of the Red Wings' current southern road trip, featuring a game tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers and Friday taking on the Carolina Hurricanes.  Kane will be re-assessed when the team returns to Detroit this weekend.

To date, Kane has scored seven goals and given nine assists in 16 games as a Red Wing, exceeding expectations after returning from major surgery.  Now, Detroit will have to make due without his offensive touch in the lineup for the foreseeable future.
