J.T. Compher—who has six points in his last six games—did not skate with his Red Wing teammates, but coach Derek Lalonde noted after practice that his absence was just a maintenance day and that he expects Compher to be available Tuesday against the Sabres.

Meanwhile, Patrick Kane—who signed with Detroit last week—took his first practice with the Red Wings.  He had participated in morning skates, but Monday was his first full practice session with the team.

Lalonde said that Kane playing Tuesday night in Buffalo (his hometown) would be "a little ambitious" and that the Red Wings would rather have their new acquisition go through another full practice Wednesday ahead of a Thursday night debut against the San Jose Sharks.
