An update on the health and availability of injured Red Wings Michael Rasmussen and Ville Husso
This afternoon, the Red Wings practiced at the BELFOR Training Center in Little Caesars Arena between yesterday's 4-3 defeat to the Rangers and tomorrow's matinee against the Sabres.
Michael Rasmussen—who was injured Monday night in Tampa Bay and did not play yesterday against New York—did not participate in that, and after practice, coach Derek Lalonde confirmed that Rasmussen won't be available against Buffalo either, saying "Definitely out for tomorrow. We'll re-evaluate. We'll practice on Monday, hopeful for Tuesday. That might be a little aggressive for Tuesday."
When asked whether Detroit missed Rasmussen last night, Lalonde replied, "Of course and obviously you're looking to potentially check a top six like that, and he's done that all year, especially of late. But at the same time, watching the game back last night, Joe [Veleno] did a good job. Our group did a good job. We kept that top six off the scoreboard five-on-five. That's why it's even a little more frustrating not getting a result last night."
Meanwhile, Ville Husso—who has practiced with the Red Wings for some time now but not played since February 13th, which was his first appearance after recovering from a different injury that had held him out since December 18th—is nearly ready for his conditioning stint in Grand Rapids, which will lead into his eventual return.
"It'll be a post-practice type thing," said Lalonde. "It's been the plan all along. He felt he was ready to get some practice time and to get a conditioning stint down there, and we're getting to close to that."
Of course, with just six games left in the season, there is not much time left for getting Husso back in the crease.
