From The Silky Mitten State: Would the Red Wings benefit from another defenseman before the deadline? If so, what kind of player would make sense?

With the trade deadline now just a day away, business is booming around the NHL.
Just yesterday, the Flames sent Noah Hanifin (arguably the top defenseman thought to be available) to Vegas, Seattle sent Alexander Wennberg to the Rangers, the Senators sent Vladimir Tarasenko to Florida, and Colorado swapped Bowen Byram for Buffalo's Casey Middlestadt to name a few.
However, as of yet, the Red Wings haven't conducted any deadline-related business themselves, but presumably that will change before tomorrow's 3 PM Eastern deadline.
Detroit has been repeatedly rumored to be interested in a "snarlier" defenseman to supplement the team's current crop of veteran blue liners, so, on the most recent episode of The Silky Mitten State, my co-host Connor Earegood and I discussed this possibility.
In the video below, you can see an excerpt of that conversation. Specifically, we get into what exactly the idea of "snarl" (which has been lobbed around a couple times in relation to the Red Wings' ideal defensive target) refers to in terms of on-ice role and whether there are any risks associated with this sort of target. We also consider Detroit's need to balance a potential long-term window of contention with bolstering the present roster for a playoff run this spring.
