Oilers' Win Over the Ducks Quietly Erased A Brutal Storyline From Last Season

Fans may not have noticed, but Wednesday night's win over the Anaheim Ducks was more than just a statement victory against a team that ousted them in the playoffs last year. This win bucked an ugly trend from the year before and eliminated any potential repeat noise in 2026-27.
The Edmonton Oilers didn't win three straight games until January 29, 2026, their 56th game of the 2025-26 season. The streak came with a 4-3 overtime comeback against the San Jose Sharks, in which Edmonton erased a 3-0 deficit and Zach Hyman scored the winner. The lack of a winning streak was a huge storyline last season, something the Oilers won't have to worry about now.
What's so interesting is that despite their star power, the Oilers struggled to string wins together early on last season. They managed only two three-game win streaks across the entire 2025-26 regular season. This season, they're without four of their top nine forwards, including Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Matt Savoie.
They've put together three straight wins already: a 9-7 win over the Vancouver Canucks, a 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken, and a 5-2 win over the Ducks.
