Edmonton was rumoured to be in contention for Brock Boeser, though the forward ultimately chose to go back to the organization that he has been with for the past decade. With Boeser not panning out for the Oilers, Edmonton switched gears and signed names like Andrew Mangiapane and Curtis Lazar, also acquiring Isaac Howard from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Sam O’Reilly. They also extended the contracts of players such as Trent Frederic (eight years), Evan Bouchard (four years), and Kasperi Kapanen (one year).
