Here is a collection of Oilers highlights from last night's dramatic win over the Stars.
Wyatt Johnston of the Stars put the visiting team up 1-0 just under six minutes into the game. His 24th of the season came on the powerplay.
That's when the fun begins for the Oilers. First, Connor McDavid drives to the net, and Zach Hyman picks up his first of the game.
Six minutes later, newcomer Jake Walman flicks a perfect stretch pass directly to the tape of Hyman's stick. He tucks in his second goal of the game and his 22nd goal of the season.
Not to be outdone by the new guy, Evan Bouchard flexes his offensive muscles and finds Viktor Arvidsson in the offensive zone. The Swedish winger makes no mistake by burying his eighth goal of the year.
McDavid looked himself in the mirror before the game and said, 'Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back.' (probably). He made Ilya Lyubushkin look like a streetlight and dashed around him before backhanding his 24th of the season past Jake Oettinger.
Not everything in the game was sunshine and rainbows. About halfway through the second period, Stars forward Roope Hintz took a puck to the face off of an Adam Henrique shot.
Hintz went down immediately. The Stars' trainer came over, attended to him, and helped him off of the ice with a towel on his face. Blood was visible on the ice and on his face when he skated off. He would not return to the game.
Reports over the last couple of days have mentioned that the Oilers were in the mix to acquire Mikko Rantanen. So, naturally, the Oilers made sure they completed all of their checks on him.
Max Jones sent Rantanen down on the ice with a big hit. Similarly, Walman pitched in the biggest hit of the night by throwing his body at Rantanen in the dying seconds of the middle frame.
Then, in the final frame, the Stars made things interesting with three goals in four minutes to pull within one of the Oilers.
One of those goals came from Rantanen, who scored his 28th goal of the season. He made no mistake in firing the puck past Stuart Skinner on a magnificent feed from Matt Duchene.
Ultimately, the Oilers came out with the win in a pulse-pounding fashion. They finished the game with 27 shots on goal, 22 hits, six penalty minutes, 19 blocked shots, 21 giveaways (Stars had 18), and three takeaways.
The Oilers and Stars will play their final game against each other on Wednesday, March 26th, at 8:00 PM Mountain.
