How long a player will be out is often uncertain. Expected timelines exist, but rarely do things go as prescribed.

However, one former Edmonton Oilers defender appears to be right on track, and there has been a new development in his injury recovery.

Philip Broberg is taking the next step in his recovery by getting some practice reps in.

Last night, the St. Louis Blues beat the New York Rangers 5-2. Before the game, the young Swede was spotted taking to the ice in a regular jersey at the team's morning skate.

He didn't see game action but spent the practice on the extra pairing.

On November 4th, the Blues announced that Broberg would be out 4-6 weeks with an injury. Yesterday marked week three of the defender's absence.

Before the injury went down, Broberg was in the midst of a revenge tour. The 6-foot-4 defender collected nine points in 12 games while playing 19:34 per game.

He has already exceeded his career high in points this season. In 2022-23, he scored eight points in 46 games.

Broberg hasn't gotten much time on the man advantage but still plays around one minute of powerplay time on ice per game. He's clearly finding his way on the team's second pairing with veteran defender Justin Faulk.

It's great to see players find their stride and play closer to their potential than they have to date. Oilers fans wait to see what Broberg will do after returning to the lineup full-time.
