Ken Holland and the Edmonton Oilers would need to pay more than a pretty penny to acquire Pavel Buchnevich.
EDMONTON -- It's the most wonderful time of the year.
The trade deadline is mere days away and the trade market is buzzing. After a weekend of assessing it appears that most teams know what they have in their team and if they have the horses to make it to the dance.

And there are other teams - like the Edmonton Oilers - who are looking to add to their already substantial chances.
Will the teams in the running for certain players pay the price to win or baulk and pivot elsewhere? In the case of the Oilers and Pavel Buchnevich, it might be the latter.

Pierre LeBrun came out with a report earlier today on the "non-rental" trade market. He had some interesting things to say about the St. Louis Blues - and provided some clarity on the asking price for Buchnevich.
LeBrun cited his colleague Chris Johnston reporting that the cost for Buchnevich would be, "at least what the Calgary Flames got in dealing Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks, which was a package of a first round pick, two prospects and an NHL player."

As a refresher, the exact trade was Lindholm to the Canucks for Andrei Kuzmenko, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo, a 2024 1st round pick and a conditional 2024 4th round pick. The condition on the 4th round selection is that it becomes a 3rd round pick if the Canucks reach the Western Conference Final.
That's a fairly steep price to pay for Buchnevich. Is that a price that Ken Holland is willing to pay for the Oilers to get deeper up front?
We'll need to wait until Friday to find out.
