A surprising connection to the Boston Bruins refuels Leon Draisaitl rumors.

A surprising connection to the Boston Bruins refuels Leon Draisaitl rumors.

Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports - Bruins Connection Sparks More Leon Draisaitl Gossip

EDMONTON -- Despite the Edmonton Oilers being in the playoffs, rumors of Leon Draisaitl's "potential interest" in playing for the Boston Bruins just won't fade.

Draisaitl is fresh off of a 13th straight playoff game where he registered at least a point. His ninth goal of the post season opened the scoring in a highly entertaining game.

Earlier in the month, there was a rumor going around that Draisaitl would be interested in playing for the Bruins if the Oilers "don't go deep in the playoffs." While "deep" hasn't been quantified in this scenario, surely the Oilers making it to the conference final would eliminate any speculation?

Wrong - apparently a source has given Boston Hockey Now new information that is adding fuel to the speculation fire. According to that source Draisaitl spends time every off season working out with David Pastrnak - and that the two are friends.

It's not uncommon for players to be friends with players who are on other teams - it's enough of a spark to keep a rumor like this alive. At least during a disappointing off season for the Bruins.

Adding on to that - the Oilers duo of Draisaitl and Connor McDavid drafted Pastrnak with their second selection at the NHL All-Star game this past year.

It's certainly strange to think of Draisaitl potentially playing for another team - but I'm sure Oilers fans thought the same thing before Wayne Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings.

With the Oilers being a team in the "final four" of the NHL it's more than likely that Draisaitl will remain with the organization for the foreseeable future. For now, label this one as gossip and a cool piece of trivia.
