After a season spent largely in the AHL, the veteran netminder’s cryptic social media farewell signals a definitive split from Edmonton as he heads toward free agency.

It appears goaltender Calvin Pickard has said his goodbye to the Edmonton Oilers and their fans. In an Instagram post this week, Pickard took to the social media platform to say "Thank you Edmonton".

A player on an expiring contract, the Oilers decided not to use Pickard much this season. He spent most of his time in the AHL, being called up as a third-string emergency goaltender for the playoffs.

Pickard's Instagram account is set to private, but there are several photos making the rounds with the same messaging.

Will Pickard find another contract in the NHL? He passed through waivers and while he was an incredible backup during this few years with the Oilers, his numbers have declinded and his age might be a factor.

Still, he's well known as an incredible teammate.

The Oilers need to take a long look at their goaltending situation this offseason. Tristan Jarry is the only netminder under contract, but he's the player with the most uncertainty surrounding him. Connor Ingram is also a pending UFA, and the Oilers would likely be open to bringing him back if they right partner could be found.
