EDMONTON -- It's Leon Draisaitl's world and we're all just living in it.

The 28-year-old Edmonton Oilers pivot has entered the final year of his eight-year $8.5-million cap hit deal. That contract has been a massive deal for the Oilers.

As his European agent Jiri Poner said to Eishockey News, "(Draisaitl) has been playing at least 30 percent below his value for three years."

"But that's not a complaint."

Draisaitl is due for a handsome raise. Most believe it will land in the $12-$14-million range. That seems like an adequate contract for the German superstar.

There are several rumors making the rounds regarding Draisaitl. One is that he would want to go to a team like the Boston Bruins, where he would be the number one center. Another rumor is that he would bolt for the San Jose Sharks should the Oilers not offer an extension. Both rumors seem to ignore a huge factor, Connor McDavid.

For as long as McDavid is with the Oilers, it's safe to assume that Draisaitl will want to stick with his brother-in-arms.

As for the rumors themselves Poner said, "there will always be rumors until Leon signs." This is true for any hockey star that is put in a similar position.

Poner is not concerned about there being no extension in place at this time. He did voice some of his thoughts regarding the deal itself and where things are at in negotiations, "we have our ideas, but the ball is in Edmonton's court. There's no rush yet, but either it happens quickly i.e by the end of August, or it doesn't work out at all."

"It will also become clear whether Edmonton really wants him or not. Leon holds all the trump cards."

His final thoughts on the Draisaitl extension are perhaps the most important, "(I'm) very confident that there will be an agreement with Edmonton in the end that both sides will be happy with."

That should help put to rest any rumors of Draisaitl searching for greener pastures. It's tough for him to reach a pasture greener than the one that has his current best friend and another opportunity to win the Stanley Cup.
