'Everybody Likes That': Connor McDavid Jokes With Media Before He Joined Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr

Connor McDavid had a humorous moment in his pre-game media availability before putting his name in the record books - yet again.

EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid had a night for the record books.

The Edmonton Oilers gave the San Jose Sharks a beat-down of epic proportions - leading to a 9-2 victory for the Oilers. Leading the way was McDavid himself, who scored on his first shift of the game 53 seconds into the first period. By the time the first intermission rolled around, they were up 4-0.

But McDavid's true time to shine didn't come until later in the game. At 15:35 of the second period Zach Hyman scored off of a tip from a McDavid pass - a play they have used countless times this season.

    It was Hyman's 54th goal, McDavid's 100th assist.

At that point in the game the damage was done - as Hyman's goal was the final goal that they would score in the game. But it was the only one that truly mattered to the team.

When talking to the media after the game, McDavid expressed what the accomplishment means to him, "it means a lot. Those three (Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr) obviously are three of the greatest players to ever play - to share a little something with them means a lot to me."

It's funny how hours earlier it hadn't really set in for McDavid just how incredible of an accomplishment he was on the cusp of. In his morning skate availability this was his reaction to potentially hitting 100 assists, "another nice number, nice round number. Everybody likes that."

With that last line he had a smirk on his face - perhaps revealing his true feelings on the upcoming milestone.

"It'd be nice," was the last thing McDavid wanted to say about that.

We should know by now that just because McDavid doesn't make something a big deal in front of people - it doesn't mean that he is ignorant of the weight of those accomplishments.

It's just another way he endears himself to his teammates and fans.
