A former Edmonton Oiler forward has announced his retirement.

The Edmonton Oilers will be harder on themselves than the media and fans are on them.

The internet and social media make it incredibly easy to remain connected to your favorite players - even when they are traded to a new team.

Klim Kostin and Jeff Petry find themselves as members of the Detroit Red Wings. About five former Edmonton Oilers are current players for the Seattle Kraken, including Jordan Eberle and Kailer Yamamoto.

One former Oiler who hasn't found the same form of success since leaving the team has announced their retirement.

"To play in the NHL is one thing, but to make a 12-year career of it is pretty special," Zack Kassian writes in an official press release from the NHLPA. "From coaches to equipment staff and fellow players I've met along the way, I've made so many relationships that are going to last a lifetime."

Recently Kassian was released from his PTO with the Anaheim Ducks. Earlier in the summer his contract was bought out by the Arizona Coyotes.
