There was a very public push for the Edmonton Oilers to bring back Corey Perry, but he's not returning. Instead, Perry has signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Los Angeles Kings.
Perry told Sportsnet's Gene Principe that he was waiting it out to see what fell in free agency. He didn't wait long, inking a new team-friendly deal (likely with some bonuses) with the Kings.
Perry signed with Los Angeles last season but was traded ahead of the deadline to the Tampa Bay Lightning. When the Lightning said they weren't bringing him back, Perry went to market.
Given the Oilers were missing key depth pieces this past season, some Oilers fans were hoping he'd be back, potentially coming in as a leader who can help the roster manage their relationship with new head coach Mike Babock.
